Experiential Learning
Four walls can’t contain an entire education. That’s why, at Richmond, most students extend their educations by participating in experiential learning opportunities. They’re the chance to take what you’ve learned in the classroom and apply it to the real world, either via research, an internship, service or study abroad.
Internships
In the Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies program, students routinely put theory into practice while exploring areas of interest that may lead to career choices after graduation. Some students choose to undertake the internship separately and some complete their internship as part of the “Women and Work” course that incorporates internship experiences with analysis.
Recently, students have completed internships with:
University of Richmond Police DepartmentImmigration Law Offices
Maymont Foundation
Virginia Historical Society
Women's Perspective, a non-profit concerned with women and international development (Boston, Massachusetts)
Richmond Magazine
The Actors' Gang (Hollywood, California)
Fan Free Medical Clinic
Richmond Organization for Sexual Minority Youth (ROSMY)
Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Virginia
AFSCM-UNCF Union Scholars Program (Washington, D.C.)
